Welcome
About us - The Full Story
In the late 90’s I, Michael Lanfield started DJ’ing under various aliases. I started various music projects and many websites and after many unsuccessful tries I gave up and decided to research and explorer different styles. My favourite was electronic music. In the early 2000s I discovered Brian Eno’s music, “Music for Airports” and fell in love with the sound. Soon there after, I decided to dedicate my time to listening and mixing ambient music.

In 2003, after watching many documentary films and seeing the catastrophe that humans put on the world and nature, I decided that it was time that I did something about it. I started petitions, and a forum dedicated to saving nature and animals, with moderate success. I kept learning – reading books, articles and watching documentary films. My forum "Saving Animals and Their Habitats" received over 2000 users.

In the summer of 2008 I started the project Ambient New World, dedicated to offering free legal relaxing music for download. “For such beautiful music, why should people have to pay retail? Music should be distributed freely over the internet. If people like the music send the artist or company a donation”. I decided to join my music project with the environment forum and combine the two projects into one forum. The other forum "Saving Animals and Their Habitats" (including all 2000 users) to this date is lost and gone forever.

In 2009 we joined Facebook to expand our network, organize events and teach a large number of individuals on the many issues that are hidden from the truth; by mass media, public media, governments and large multi national corporations who do not want you to know the truth. We do this in many ways; through demonstrations, benefit parties, distributing fliers, signing petitions and group discussions. The topics of main concern are on the environment, cruelty and suffering towards animals, vegetarianism and veganism, the media, multi national corporations and government. We educate people on the truth and not false information mass and public media, government and large multinational corporations are portraying.

"I am a dedicated environmentalist, conservationist, animal activist and vegan. Becoming a vegan will feed the entire world ten times over."

Hey thx for checking out! On my site in the Store / Music menu you should have a flash player that contains all the tracks in full preview there! If not Let me know. on the myspace you can click on the album covers that should redirect you to the last.fm page of that album! All albums contain at least one free download! So you should be able to get it :D

About Cd prices! Yeah you're right. CD's should be a tad cheaper so more people can buy them. I for myself decided not to sell them over 10 EUR = max. So my Messierobjekten goes for about 9 EUR (I payed the manufacturer about 8,50 EUR) but what you get is a pressed CD with an 8 page digipack!

I do beleive too that 20 EUR for a CD is outrageous

Hey, so you actually paid the manufacturer 8.50 euro to manufacture 1 CD?
That is so expensive. Here in Canada (Toronto) it cost less than $1.50 (CND) to manufacture a basic good quality pressed CD.

That can be in fact very decisive on the interest of the listeners.
Imagine you have a market stand with above a text written in big letters: "Fresh fruits here". People come to your stand and see no fruits displayed on your spot...how do you think they will react? Yes, you know...

Otherwise when they can see the fruits right before them, see the wonderful colors and smell their fresh odours, they will most probably ask you and start a conversation. If you let them taste your fruits you will convince them, or not. Though you know there's more people around.

Actually what happens in record store here in Canada (I don't know elsewhere) is when you walk into most record stores, HMV for example lets you preview a few discs before you buy them. Even though most discs are $15+ CND you can preview them.

The whole point of this discussion was to see whether CD prices are too much money or too little. And I thought they are too much.

If I were selling my own CD without any record label at all I would sell it for no more than $5.00 plus s+h. But if I were sign with a major or independent label then the price would have to be a little more to compensate for the profit the label makes.

no record, no matter what kind of music and no matter if you sell it yourself or through a major or independent label should be priced high. CD's should be no higher than $8 USD

I have a friend which works as a drywaller and contructs some music as hobby and releases it online. What he cares if people enjoy his music and tells their friends and family about his music. He doesn't really care to make money, as long as people like his music he is happy.

What it comes down to is the artist producing the music he or she loves. If you love ambient music and you want to try and promote it than promote it with your heart and not with money involved, however if you do wish to make a little money as well, you should do it and use most of it for putting back into your productions or promotion of the music you love. Most people produce the music as a hobby part-time and have an actual job. You can still make a good decent living from selling music CDs at $5.00 if you get enough fans and customers.

The is a very good discussion. When I go to the music store (near my area) CDs are priced very high. Most are at least $12+ USD. And people are still willing to buy these expensive music and some people for any kind of music they even pay $20 or $30 each.

I think there has to be a limit at what is the maximum price that CDs should be sold at, like gas prices prices should have a maximum limit. Every product sold should have a limit. If they wanted to sell gas at $3.00/L they would and one day it might even happen. And because not many people complain about music and movies being priced to high the record companies don't do anything about it and at the end because of the high prices a lot of people are pirating music copying or downloading.

People instead of doing something about these prices to lower them (by protesting, writting articles or getting petitions signed) they just forget about buying music and download from the internet for free which does not solve the illegal downloading music lawsuits these record companies have against these websites hosting the MP3 files.

I feel the same. Prices overall worldwide should be cheaper on any product, however inflation is a factor as well. Yes prices must always go up due to inflation, but sometimes prices go down. Computer prices go down, car prices go a little down and other products now that they are made mostly in China. Here in Canada you can find a lot of products for a dollar (CND) and pretty good quality and some not so good, but you have to judge for yourself what is good and what is not.

CD prices will be always in debate, but listen to this- when a middle-class worker wants to buy a music CD they really don't want to spend $20 or $30 for each. Yes okay $15 max would be okay or $10 Canadian dollar would be okay, but I think there would be more sales overall of CDs and less pirating on internet if music was cheaper.

Here an iteresting part from Bert's interview with Max Corbacho:

Bert: What made you both decide to start your own record company ad21 music? How's the company doing so far?

Max: Releasing not dance-oriented electronic music is really complex nowadays. The distribution channels are rather complicated and sometimes you lose the control on what you do because there are few economic resources. The big record companies do not have this problem (though they have others), they count with a great structure and they work as refined companies where everything, even the smallest detail, is under control. This is not what generally happens in the small record companies, where the artist is inevitable damaged in the end. Today, private release seems to be one of the few alternatives that’s left for us. Furthermore, the internet and the piracy have changed the concept of releasing and selling music. We are in a deep moment of change and a classic conception of a record company does not work in these days...

...We will try to continue releasing our music through our label, but we will also consider releasing music of other musicians. The contact is always interesting and besides, every company record has its particular network that provides a general idea of the market.

Good points from a professional producer and musician! Thank you Max. and Bert.

I agree that private releases are the way to go, however if a record company small or big wants to add your song(s) to a compilation CD or retrospective album and you don't really care too much about money then let them release it. It may be degrading to the artist (in the sense that he/she probably would earn very little money from sales), but if the artist only cares about promoting his/her music and name then it is okay.

I guess I understand the point, and I do am a little disappointed I have to ask 9 EUR for my CD because of the cost it had making it and the cost of the artwork etc.. It's a tad to the expensive side. Now I have a daily job besides my Music. And yeah I earn enough. But that money serves for me my girlfriend my housing my insurance etc... etc.. So the only way I can get to invest in my music equipment is by making it through trying to sell music, My equipment f.i. is not good enough yet to go out and do live shows. So my only income is by the sale of music. Now I will get there. Last week three more people bought my messierobjekten CD. Allthough priced a bit expensive people trust in the fact they get good music AND a nice 8 page digipack with artwork by Hans Bloemmen (who got payed for it because it is worth it). So I payed to get this expensive design, but with the only goal of making it worth while. You do not only pay for the music, but for the artwork as well which I beleive is worth it.

So setting maximum prices on CD's might be cutting in the possibilities to be creative with CD's. To me it's all a matter of what you get for the price.

I'm proposing another approach with buying music in general. I do NOT consider lowering prices as a good solution. This because it can damage the work of an artist, at least his self-esteem. I am for a more open and liberal market, where the producer himself - that means the artist - can set HIS own prices! If for some people the prices are too high, it won't be for others who really appreciate or collect his work. That's my opinion and i will apply it.

It's evident that i represent here my producer's/artist's view of things and not just as listener. Okay, major labels control everything but same is if you manage yourself. Sure you have to work more but it gives you a plus on satisfaction 'cause you can turn things like you WANT.

Best thing for us artists is to find a niche or even better: create an own one!

;) :) :D :D
